In the Spring 2021 semester, density regulations and safety measures related to the pandemic will affect modes of instruction significantly. With very few exceptions, all XE courses will be offered remotely, with no in-person group instruction. The few "hybrid" XE courses offered will also be fully accessible remotely.
This means that it will be possible for XE students to move forward with their program of study in XE (and possibly in other departments) in Spring 2021 without having to move to NYC. However, students who reside in other time zones, especially very distant ones, should note that--while some XE courses may include asynchronous elements in courses--no XE course will be fully (or even largely) asynchronous. Therefore, you should only enroll in courses that meet at a time you feel you can manage to be awake and engaged.
XE faculty will strive to supplement on-line instruction with whatever kinds of in-person interaction that can be conducted safely, such as small group meetings, office hour conversations, etc. We also plan to run a robust co-curricular program of events and activities, all fully accessible remotely, so that we can maintain our vibrant intellectual and social community.
