Several months before the start of the semester, faculty will be emailed instructions for ordering course material. This email will include instructions for ordering books through the NYU Bookstore, placing requests for desk copies, placing course material on reserve at the library as well as guidelines for photocopying and creating course packs. All of these instructions are also noted below.
Books & Course Materials
Book orders
There are now two ways in which you can place your book orders and course pack orders through the NYU Bookstore. Each option is detailed below.
The bookstore has begun using a new book ordering system that can be accessed through NYU Classes called Follett Discover. If you choose to use this system, please view this tutorial.
To access Follett Discover, log in to NYU Classes. Click on “NYU Bookstore” in the left-hand navigation column to begin. Please note that this system will allow you to check on the status of your book orders.
You may send an email to the Bookstore directly at wsq.text@nyu.edu. If you choose to email the bookstore, please provide them with the following information for each text so that the correct book is ordered:
ISBN
Book title
Author
Publisher
Edition/Year
In order to assure that your books arrive in time, please place your order as soon as possible after you receive the book order email.
Before the semester begins, instructors may want to visit the NYU Bookstore to make sure that their books are in stock. Books can be found in the rear part of the main floor of the NYU Bookstore.
Course Pack
If you are planning to create a course pack, we encourage you to use the NYU Bookstore, which will obtain copyright permissions for the contents of your packet.
Please send an email to the NYU Bookstore Course Pack Team at coursepacks@nyu.edu.
Please remember to email your course number and course name with your citations when you submit your requests.
PLACING COURSE MATERIALS ON RESERVE AT THE LIBRARY
Required course-related materials can be placed on reserve at the NYU Libraries for students to use. Course Reserves materials include print items (available at Bobst) as well as audio and video items, and music books and scores (available at the Avery Fisher Center (AFC)). Please visit the library’s Place Materials on Course Reserve for more information.
Photocopying
The Department of Sociology has photocopy machines. You are welcome to use these throughout the semester for small course-related copy and scan jobs as long as you keep in mind the University’s fair use guidelines. What this means is that you can on occasion photocopy an article, but you cannot photocopy weekly readings, a whole book, etc.
If you need assistance with copying or scanning materials, please contact the administrative aide at the front desk for assistance.
Please also note NYU’s Policy on Photocopying Copyrighted Materials.
