Elementary Filipino II

PREREQUISITE: SCA-UA 321.

Prerequisite: SCA-UA 321 Elementary Filipino I or take an online placement exam at: http://cas.nyu.edu/academic-programs/academic-support-services/placementexams.html Having acquired basic grammatical and syntactical skills in Elementary Filipino I, the aim and focus of this course is to practice that knowledge in daily conversation, while further developing the ability to use more complex sentences. This semester will concentrate on verbs and the unique way they are used in Tagalog. The students will, at the same time, expand their understanding to facilitate reading, speaking, and writing skills. They will familiarize themselves with Tagalog as a living tongue by examining the cultural and historical contexts within which it evolved. (One semester of Cantonese or Filipino or Swahili elective for A/P/A majors/minors, one semester of language can count as elective for SCA majors/minors when taught by SCA faculty.)
