Since 2007, the Remarque Institute has had close ties with the École Normale Supérieure, Paris, through a partnership led at ENS by its Department of History, and involving also its Departments of Social Sciences and the History and Theory of Art. Each year the Remarque Institute in New York hosts up to eight visiting scholars who are faculty, students, or affiliates of ENS. The Remarque Institute helps these visitors establish meaningful contacts at NYU and in the region, integrates them into the Institute’s programming, and provides them with office space and housing for the duration of their stays.
The Institute also maintains modest office space at ENS in Paris, where we are able to offer Doctoral Fellowships to NYU graduate students who may apply to spend up to a semester in residence (and, in exceptional cases, a full year). Graduate students are provided with student housing, office space and round-trip travel between New York and Paris.
Non-fellowship opportunities exist for tenure-track NYU faculty interested in spending time at ENS. Please contact The Remarque Institute for further information.
In partnership with the École Normale Supérieure, the Remarque Institute is also very pleased to offer, by competition, a one-month Invited Professorship (professeur invité) position at ENS each year. The professorship is awarded by the Remarque Institute, in consultation with ENS.
