The Advisory Committee of the Native Studies Forum began meeting in the Spring of 2006 and has developed a membership of more than 17 faculty members and more than 30 staff members, students, and representatives of community organizations. With the help of a grant from the NYU Humanities Council and donations from Tisch School of the Arts, Graduate School of Arts and Science, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity, over 30 events have been conducted or cosponsored, and several more are planned. The group has established working relationships with the American Indian Community House and the National Museum of the American Indian. The founding director of the organization was Professor T. James Matthews. |
