IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE IRANIAN WOMEN DEMANDING THEIR HUMAN RIGHTS, WE CONDEMN ISLAMIC REPUBLIC’S VIOLENCE AGAINST THE PROTESTS.
Iranian Studies Initiative at New York University (ISI-NYU) stands in solidarity with the academics in Iran who have spoken out against the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini in police custody in Tehran on September 16, 2022. ISI-NYU supports the rights of Iranian students, professors, researchers, and others to protest, and voices concern about the violent suppression and summary arrests of students, journalists, and ordinary Iranians outraged by the brutal crackdown by security forces of the Islamic Republic.
The twenty-two-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Zhina Amini, was arrested because her attire was deemed “religiously improper.” Following Masha’s death, youth in Iran protested, raising their voice against the murder and the systematic cruelty that her death has made visible to the world. ISI-NYU voices its concern, and in solidarity with the faculty, students, and academic associations in Iran, echoes their demand for justice.

AATP stands in solidarity with the courageous Iranian women demanding their basic human rights, and condemns any violence in response to the struggle of all Iranian citizens for social justice. With their access to the internet limited these days, we echo the messages of support that have been pouring in from across the world, and we too are their voice.
