The Hagop Kevorkian Center and the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at NYU kindly invite you to join us on March 24 at 12:30pm NYC / 6:30pm Beirut for the second event in this semester’s Arabic Lecture Series: “On the Ruins of National Literature: Literature Written by Outsiders.” Dr. Mona Kareem will speak about her critical project on the concept of national literature and its implications, using the example of literature from the Persian Gulf. Dr. Kareem’s project researches the roots of the term national literature and its problematics through comparison between feminist novels in the Gulf, and literary works written in Arabic and other languages by bidoun (stateless) and immigrant authors.

تنظّم سلسلة المحاضرات العربيّة جلسة بعنوان "على أطلال الأدب القومي: عن أدب يكتبه الغرباء." تتحدث فيها الدكتورة منى كريم عن مشروعها النقديّ حول مفهوم الأدب القوميّ وتداعياته من خلال نموذج الأدب في الخليج. تبحث كريم في جذور مسمى الأدب القوميّ وإشكاليّاته من خلال مقارنة بين الرواية النسائية في الخليج وأعمال أدبية كُتبَت بالعربية ولغات أخرى من قبل كُتّاب "بدون" ومهاجرين.
ويُذكر أنّ السلسلة هذه تحظى بدعم دائرة الدراسات الشرق أوسطيّة والإسلاميّة ومركز هاغوب كفوركيان في جامعة نيويورك.

الدكتورة منى كريم: كاتبة وأكاديمية مقيمة في الولايات المتحدة صدرت لها عدّة مجاميع شعرية وترجمات بين العربية والإنجليزيّة. حصلت على شهادة الدكتوراه في الأدب المقارن من جامعة ولاية نيويورك في بنغهامتون.
