"NaTakallam connects displaced Syrians with Arabic learners for language practice over Skype. The Syrian conflict has triggered the worst refugee crisis since World War II. Even those who manage to flee the violence and obtain asylum abroad struggle to find work opportunities, challenged by language barriers and labor restrictions. NaTakallam (“we speak” in Arabic) pairs displaced Syrians with Arabic learners around the world for affordable, flexible, tailored Arabic practice. For displaced Syrians around the world, NaTakallam offers an income source and enriching job opportunity. Along the way, users and their Syrian conversation partners engage in a powerful intercultural exchange, developing friendships between worlds that are polarized in the media and political spheres."
All levels of Arabic speakers welcome. Come and practice, absorb, learn!
Cosponsored by the Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies at NYU and Natakallam.
