Beginning when US media outlets reported in Fall 2017 on numerous sexual abuse allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein, the #metoo social media campaign has grown to become a global phenomenon. In France, the trend took the form of the widely-used #balancetonporc hashtag (although the names of the accused were seldom exposed). Geneviève Fraisse will offer an in-depth analysis of what is at stake in the debates currently taking place in France around the relevance of a “séduction à la française,” drawing on years of historical and philosophical work on the issues of consent, sexual harassment and feminism.
Geneviève Fraisse is a philosopher and Director of Research at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS, France). Her work deals with epistemology and politics about genealogy of democracy, concepts of emancipation and philosophical problematization of sex/gender debate.
