Comments by Clifford Chanin, Senior Vice President for Education and Public Programs at the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
After the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, most of which took place in the same lively and densely inhabited neighborhood near the Place de la République, there was a large diversity of expressions of memory and solidarity in the city’s public space. Sarah Gensburger and Gerome Truc studied the reactions to the attacks, and collected ethnographic data on tributes to the victims left at memorial sites.
