Born in 1961, Jérôme Hantaï studied viola da gamba with Wieland Kuijken at the Brussels Conservatory. At the same time, he became interested in early keyboard instruments, especially historical pianos.
Since his student days, he has given numerous concerts on viol and piano, and has collaborated with pioneers of the early music revival, including Sigiswald Kuijken, René Jacobs, and Jean-Claude Malgoire. He is above all a member of the Trio Hantaï, with his brothers Marc (transverse flute) and Pierre (harpsichord), an ensemble that has gained international renown. In addition, since 2001, Jérôme Hantaï leads his own ensemble, Spes Nostra, and plays in the Almaviva Trio. Since 2018, he forms a duo with harpsichordist Lillian Gordis.
Frequently requested as a soloist, he performs throughout Europe, in the USA, and tours in Asia (China, India, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan, Cambodia...). Finally, he also devotes a large part of his activity to teaching, within the CRR of Cergy-Pontoise, and by giving masterclasses.
