Since Glucksman Ireland House opened in 1993, our aim has been three-fold: to foster excllence in teaching and research, and to provide the New York City public with regular access to Irish and Irish-American arts and culture.

The Irish Studies program is crucial to our mission, providing formal opportunities to pursue research in the literature, history, and culture of Ireland and Irish America at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our faculty teach courses that explore Irish literature, early and modern Irish history, the Irish language, and Irish-American history and literature.

At the same time, our public events program has established New York University as a major center for educational and cultural events related to Ireland and Irish America. Many distinguished individuals have participated in this program, including poets Seamus Heaney, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, and John Montague; writers Edna O'Brien, Colum McCann, John McGahern, Nuala O'Faolain, and Frank McCourt; filmmakers Neil Jordan and Jim Sheridan; musicians Mick Moloney and Tommy Peoples; and Presidents of Ireland Mary Robinson and Michael D. Higgins.

In addition to supporting our Irish Studies and public events programs, your gift supports student scholarship, the historical documentation of Irish experiences through the Archives of Irish America and publications such as the Glucksman Irish Diaspora Series from NYU Press and the The American Journal of Irish Studies.
