Join us for a launch and reading from two recently published poetry chapbooks from Green Bottle Press: Pamela Manché Pearce’s Widowland and Kelly E. Sullivan’s Fell Year
Pamela Manché Pearce’s debut chapbook, Widowland, charts a terrain rather than a chronological point in time. The experience of becoming a widow requires a map or directions for emotional and practical navigation. It’s a place you can find yourself dropped unexpectedly, and these poems reflect the orientation and the journey through this landscape toward what is next in life.
Pamela Manché Pearce is the recipient of two Woolrich Creative Writing Fellowships from Columbia University, the former Director of Events and Publicity for the PEN American Center, and is currently Poet-at-Large on the Planet Poet—Words in Space show on WIOX’s The Writers Voice Poetry Hour. She lives in New York, where she is a certified Amherst Writers & Artists method leader and conducts a regular poetry and memoir workshop for nonagenarians. Her poems are widely published and anthologized in the US and abroad, including The Widows’ Handbook from Kent State University Press.
Irish poet Moya Cannon writes of Kelly Sullivan’s Fell Year, “this is a work of tonal depths, of deep reflectiveness, full of the dankness and the shaded light of half-tamed land. There are poems here which bring us, in her own words, ‘the blindness of a purely felt thing.’
Kelly E. Sullivan is a poet, fiction writer, and an assistant professor in Irish Literature at Glucksman Ireland House. Her poems and short stories have appeared in Salmagundi, The Hopkins Review, Poetry Ireland Review, Southword, and elsewhere. Her novella, Winter Bayou, came out with the Lilliput Press in 2005. She is a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship in poetry, and an Underwater New York/Works on Water residency at Governor’s Island, New York City. She has a Ph.D. from Boston College.
