From Cocodrie to CODOFIL is a project hosted by the NYU Department of French. It aims to offer students and francophiles an archive of French in North America.
Each student who attends the course and Spring Break trip conducts and records an interview with a Louisiana French speaker. The interviews represent important resources for a language that is under threat of disappearing, and of a vibrant and rich culture whose history is intricately intertwined with France and the United States. The database of interviews continues to grow as our students continue to explore the unique and rich cultures of Francophone Louisiana.
The Center for French Civilization and Culture is looking to expand this project to American francophone speakers in Maine, Vermont, and Québec.
