NYU Berlin, in collaboration with NYU Steinhardt's Department of Art and Art Professions, and Deutsches Haus at NYU present the third annual group exhibition reflecting students’ Berlin experience.
Berlin Becoming focuses on Berlin as a place undergoing a constant flux of renovation both symbolically and physically. As such, the work on display brings together a diverse yet intensely personal account of Berlin’s influence on students’ practices in formal and conceptual ways.
Grappling with Berlin’s complex and dynamic context of colliding histories, destruction and the ongoing reinvention of hope and progress, the resulting works synthesize these various concepts, conveying ideas surrounding development, evolution, and adaptability as well as an atmosphere of mutability encouraging transient and momentary identities that result in everyday poetry. Ultimately, the exhibition aims to consider Berlin’s power to illicit experimentation and propel creative energy.
Berlin Becoming showcases work by students from NYU Steinhardt Department of Art and Art Professions as well as NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Participating artists include: Alyssa Steiger, Arielle Stein, Azelea Tang, Brandy Antonio, Christina Tsui, Emma Strebel, Ian Korer & Matthew Bond, Jaclyn Levy, Julie Stopper, Logan Criley, Maansi Jain, and Sammy Dalati. The exhibition also awards the “NYU Berlin Culture Brewery Prize 2014,” which affords the winner(s) $1,000 intended for a return trip to Berlin.
Events at Deutsches Haus are free of charge. Please let us know you would like to attend this event by sending us an email to deutscheshaus.rsvp@nyu.edu as well. Space at Deutsches Haus is limited, please arrive ten minutes prior to the event.
