Description:
Repertório N.2 is the second part of a choreographic experience to think about dance as a self-defense practice. Using deviant and informal techniques, the work bets on an alternative genealogy of underground self-defensive practices, committed to critically thinking about the world we live in while performing between imagination and intuition in order to free thought from the tools of understanding.
Join us for a conversation with the artists Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira who created Repertório N.2 along with Susana Costa Amaral (NYU Spanish & Portuguese, doctoral candidate) and Dr. André Lepecki (NYU Tisch Performance Studies).
This event will take place in Portuguese.
Before the event you are invited to watch a video recording of the performance Repertório N.2; this link will be available here on March 22, 2022.
Biographies:
Davi Pontes is an artist, choreographer, researcher and a master's student at the Graduate Program in Arts at Universidade Federal Fluminense. His works address issues of the globalized present and are interested in deepening the concepts of raciality, choreography and self-defense and their workings based on the idea of the archive contained in the production of history. Among his most recent works, the film Delirar o Racial, the Repertório de Autodefensa School and the Repertório trilogy stand out.
Wallace Ferreira is a dance artist, choreographer, performer, and visual artist. Ferreira is a graduate of the Escola Livre de Artes da Maré (ELÃ), Escola de Artes Visuais Parque Lage, and Dance at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). She builds strategies and choreographs actions to escape representations. Through undisciplined practices his creations provoke accidents between languages in dance, performance and visual arts. Her work is also an obsession with entering layers of the invisible, inhabiting fragilities. Driven by the challenges of tensioning the present, since 2018 she has presented her works in art galleries, national and international festivals such as Tanya Bonakdar Gallery (NY), Festival Panorama, ArtRio, Lateral Roma, HOA ART, Artfizz, Galeria Jaqueline Martins. Among her most recent works, the “Repertório” trilogy in partnership with the artist Davi Pontes stands out, who was at the VERBO exhibition of the Vermelho gallery, Valongo International Image Festival, Anita schwartz art gallery, Frestas - Arts Triennale 2020/21. She directed the film Delirar o Racial in partnership with the artist Davi Pontes, a work commissioned by the Pivô Satellite Program, 2021.
