The Runasimi Outreach Committee (ROC) in collaboration with the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS), and Cinema Studies of NYU are honored to present The Last Inca Princess.
This experimental short film by Ana de Orbegoso brings to life and infuses current relevance into a colonial painting that captures a crucial moment in history: the execution of the last rebel Inca Tupac Amaru, and the political wedding of his niece to a Spanish army captain. These events contributed to the consummation of the Spanish conquest of the Inca empire and was the beginning of official “mestizaje” – the mixing of Peruvian and Spanish cultures. NYU’s very own Quechua Professor Odi Gonzales contributed to this piece with his historical advisement.
This screening will be accompanied by historical commentary as well as a Q&A with the director.
