Join the CLACS Runasimi Outreach Collective (ROC) for a screening of the 1973 short documentary Runan Caycu, by Peruvian filmmaker Nora de Izcue. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmaker, Nora de Izcue and Peruvian anthropologist, Enrique Mayer . Moderated by Micaél Pereira (ROC) and Gonzalo Appiani (ROC)
About the Presenters:
Micaél Pereira is an Andean training herbalist who recently graduated from the Quechua program at NYU. They are co-president of ROC and will be leading the discussion.
Gonzalo Appiani is a Junior at NYU majoring in History and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Gonzalo is a graduate of the Quechua program and co-president of ROC.
Enrique Mayer is a professor of Anthropology at Yale University. He has published many landmark works on the Peruvian Andes including Ugly Stories from the Peruvian Agrarian Reform, The Articulated Peasant: Household Economies in the Andes.
Nora de Izcue, the director of Runan Caycu, was the first female documentary-maker in Peru. In particular, she emphasized and platformed the language of Quechua in her early work, shaping the cultural atmosphere within film. She is a founding member of the Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano
