Indocumentales is a film and conversation series exploring the immigrant experience. This series is presented in partnership with
Cinema Tropical, and What Moves You?, and brings together educators, filmmakers, community activists, and the general public in conversation about current issues related to migration and inspired by groundbreaking films.
The film will be Habla y Vota by HBO Latino. Part of HBO Latino’s Habla series, Habla y Vota, is a one-hour, non-partisan program in English and Spanish encouraging Latinos to vote. It features inspiring stories of leading Latino celebrities and media personalities such as María Celeste Arrarás, Prince Royce, Jorge Ramos and Adrienne Bailon, who are on a mission to make the voice of the Latino community heard in 2016. Gabe Gonzalez is a comedian, writer, and producer living in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in a bustling Boricua home in Florida and graduated from Brown University in 2012. As a queer Latinx, he's passionate about issues pertaining to politics, sexual health and social justice. He studied at Second City in 2011 and believes satire is one of the strongest tools for change at our disposal. He currently works as a news producer and video correspondent for Mic.
Alberto Ferreras is a New York based writer and filmmaker. He is known for his award winning novel “B as in Beauty”—published in the U.S., Spain and Italy—, for “Habla”, a 14-part documentary series for HBO Latino that he created and directs since 2003. Ferreras is one of the creators of “El Perro y el Gato” a bilingual children’s animated show for HBO Family (Parent’s Choice Awards 2012), he also wrote and directed “Madres y Comadres” —the first web-novela produced by Kmart for the Hispanic market of the U.S. He made his big screen debut as a screenwriter with the feature “Que Viva LaMúsica” (Liveforever) at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015. Ferreras has directed advertising campaigns for HBO, HBO Latino, Cinemax, Pampers, Dish Latino, MetroPlus, Verizon Wireless, Walgreens, Weiss, the American Heart Association, The Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund among others. As a songwriter he has worked with Madonna, with Tony Award nominee Olga Merediz and with Venezuelan pop-band Los Crema Paraíso. As a journalist, he has collaborated with Vanity Fair Spain, The Miami Herald (El Nuevo Herald), and Distrikt Magazine among many others. Ferreras has been a guest speaker at SXSW, University of Florida, Wellesley College, Dartmouth College, El Museo del Barrio, and the Smithsonian Institute.
