Every year, the Consortium for Intellectual and Cultural History awards up to two summer fellowships, named in honor of Professor Jerrold Seigel, the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of History Emeritus at New York University. The awards are open to PhD students working in the field of intellectual history broadly defined and in any geographical field or time period, but are limited to students enrolled at Consortium member institutions—Columbia and New York Universities. The amount of these fellowships is usually $3,000.
Application: There is no application form. Please send a two-page, single-spaced personal statement explaining (a) the project, (b) the particular research and writing for which you propose to make use of the fellowship. Please also send a curriculum vitae, and ask one of your doctoral advisors to send a recommendation letter on your behalf. We recommend that you make clear the intellectual-historical stakes of the overall project and of the research and writing you propose, as well as the conversations to which this work contributes.
This year, all materials were due by March 31, 2022.
