Four Calls for Submission
1. Established in 1974, the Minetta Review is the oldest literary and arts publication at New York University.
We accept previously unpublished poems, short stories, essays, interviews, photographs, paintings, and illustrations, from both undergraduate and graduate students at any institution. Written pieces should be under 3,000 words.
Submissions for our fall 2023 issue are now open. Please email your piece(s) to minettareview@gmail.com by 11:59pm est on October 30.
2. Laurel Moon, Brandeis University's oldest literary magazine, is accepting submissions for our national issue. This issue follows a simple mission: to feature the innermost voices from a group of diverse, young writers.
The submission deadline for the upcoming national issue has been extended! It is now October 21, 2023. For this issue, we will be accepting original, unpublished work written in English. We will consider up to five poems and three prose works from each author, as well as up to fifteen pages of content in another form. Additionally, we will be accepting ten pieces of artwork and photography per submission.
To see our full submission guidelines and instructions, please see the submissions page on our website: https://www.laurelmoonmag.com/submit
3. BRIO. Open Call for Fall 2023 Submissions
This Fall, BRIO invites undergraduate students from across the nation to submit short stories, poems, articles, academic writing, translations, visual images, screenplays, stage plays, sheet music, lyrics, and other interdisciplinary works to be considered for the Fall 2023 In My Room, I issue of the journal. With this theme, we encourage undergraduates to reflect on the meaning of their second home, what transcends a space into their room, what portals guard their sanctuary, what their universe looks like, and most importantly, who they are in the infinity of their own making. We are interested in the lab of great ideas, the cave of great conversations, the pillow of great dreams, the wall of curated posters, the corner of infinite prayers, the closet of endless choices, the window of the world at an angle and everything in between that makes up a room of one’s own. Additionally, we encourage students to submit a self-portrait in their room + a song they usually play when lying on their bed to be considered for the multimodal rubric of the issue.
The submission deadline is Friday, November 17th, 2023. All undergraduates, regardless of their field of study, may submit materials of an intertextual, intercultural, interdisciplinary focus in any language. Creative as well as academic submissions are equally welcome, providing they fit the criteria for submissions. Prose, whether the submission is an academic essay or multiple short stories, must be under or around 1,000 words. 5 poems are the limit for poetry submissions. All text documents should be in an editable .doc or .docx format. All images should be in .jpg format, and you may submit up to 5 images.
Submissions not originally written in English will need to include an English translation as well unless you request translation assistance from our editors in your email. All submissions and further questions should be sent to briojournal@nyu.edu.
4. The Greene Street Review, the online magazine of Cultural Criticism & Commentary from the NYU Department of English, is looking for pitches and submissions for its Fall 2023 issue. We welcome writing in diverse forms and genres from undergraduate writers in the Greater New York City area.
Is there a hill you're currently dying on? Tell us about it—The Greene Street Review is open for submissions! The deadline is Sunday, October 22nd 11:59pm. This is the FINAL WEEK to send an inquiry form. Don't have a draft ready? All we need is the idea: send over a pitch. We're NYU's premier cultural criticism and commentary mag, open to all undergraduates in, around, and associated with NYC.
Cultural commentary is the name of the game, but we are accepting a diversity of medium alongside the standard essay: review, interview, op-ed, standalone podcast ep, short story, CNF/personal essay, poem, visual art. Come one, come all. Follow us on IG @greenestreview for more info and find links to our submission form and our website here: https://linktr.ee/greenestreview
