Applications for admission to the Advanced Certificate program are accepted from those who already have a master’s or doctoral degree in hand or who are currently applying to, have been accepted into, or are enrolled in a graduate program at New York University or another highly reputed university. Admission to the Advanced Certificate program is contingent on acceptance and enrollment in a master’s or doctoral program. In order to be awarded the advanced certificate, students must complete both the Program in Museum Studies and their graduate degree requirements.
The GRE is not required. Please do not send us GRE test scores as they will not be reviewed or considered by the department's Admissions Committee.
A writing sample is required. It should be no more than 10 double-spaced pages. It may be excerpted from a term paper, essay, or other writing that illustrates the applicant's ability to present clearly a written argument on an academic or museum-related topic.
In addition, either the TOEFL or the IELTS is required of all applicants who are not native English speakers or who do not have a bachelor's or master's degree from an institution where the language of instruction is English.
Admission to the program is granted independently of admission to another graduate department, and applicants are notified separately. Acceptances are made in the fall semester to the Program in Museum Studies.
