Women and Gender in Islam

This course investigates the complexity of the messages and models relating to gender in one of the world's most influential religious traditions. Beginning with the rise of Islam and sampling primary and secondary sources from a range of times and places, the class observes how foundational texts and personalities are interpreted and reinterpreted for changing times.

Examines the rights, roles, and the physical appearance of Muslim women.
