Christiane Taubira, Former Minister of Justice of France
Born in Cayenne (French Guiana), Christiane Taubira is strongly committed to civil rights, women’s rights and reforms in the criminal justice system. Taubira gave her name to the 2001 law that recognizes the Atlantic slave trade and slavery as a crime against humanity. She introduced the 2013 law that legalized same-sex marriage in France and a bill that created a national General Prosecutor specialized in financial matters.
