Bronx-born All-Ireland fiddle champion Brian Conway is the standard bearer of the acclaimed County Sligo style as it was developed in New York by generations of immigrant and Irish-American players. His father Jim, a Tyrone native, and revered teacher Martin Mulvihill gave him his start on the fiddle but he followed up with close study of the bowing, phrasing and ornamentation of the legendary Sligo-born fiddler and composer Martin Wynne, as well as that of Andy McGann, New York’s finest home-grown Irish violinist. Brian has also passed on the style to many students, including several who have won All-Ireland championships themselves. County Kilkenny-born John Walsh is a superb guitarist who has accompanied uilleann piper Paddy Keenan and other stars of the Irish tradition.
