Welcome to the Program in International Relations at New York University. Located in vibrant Greenwich Village, the Program in International Relations offers a range of graduate degrees rooted in the academic discipline of International Relations.
Our students follow an interdisciplinary program of study that allows them access to some of the best scholars and practitioners working in the field of international, global, and regional issues. Our pedagogy is rooted in a belief that this multifaceted education best equips our students to understand the complex nature of contemporary international affairs. NYU’s “locational endowment,” in a city where world politics, international business, and global culture and arts intersect, offers an unparalleled environment for students to learn, and more importantly, experience, the complex and interdependent nature of the modern world.
The Program in International Relations at NYU is extremely focused on teaching. Our selective admissions process allows us to focus on the individual needs of our students. Unlike larger graduate programs in international and global affairs at many of our peer universities, our specialized program of study provides students with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary perspective on International Relations, while also allowing our students to tailor their studies to their specific interests.
In addition to the courses and research conducted within the Program in International Relations and the Graduate School of Arts and Science, our students have opportunities to take courses and explore research conducted at the best law school for international law in the United States, NYU Law, as well as NYU’s renowned Stern School of Business and Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Our students also have access to dozens of research centers at NYU.
Our graduates move into successful careers as international affairs professionals, working for governments, NGOs, IGOs, and in the private sector, while others continue their studies at prestigious PhD programs and law schools around the world. In conjunction with a dedicated team at NYU’s Wasserman Center for Career Development, we host a range of events and training opportunities to prepare our students to transition from the study of International Relations to the practice of international affairs.
The Program in International Relations is housed within NYU's Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS). One of the top graduate schools in the world, GSAS counts among its ranks five Pulitzer Prize winners, nine MacArthur Fellows, three National Medal of Science winners, four Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigators, and 98 Guggenheim Fellows. Students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries study at GSAS. Like our students, NYU faculty come from around the world. Together we form a truly exciting community of the mind around our campus on Washington Square -- and across our global network university that stretches across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. GSAS is dedicated to the education and training of innovative and successful scholars, teachers, and professionals.
