The University's Hybrid/Remote Work policy seeks to provide a clear framework to guide decision making at the school and unit level in regards to telecommuting. Accordingly, Arts & Science will implement the University's policy, with the following guidelines in effect as of September 1, 2022.
We encourage all employees to review the policy thoroughly to ensure they understand the scope and parameters of the policy. Employees with specific questions and concerns may reach out to Arts & Science Human Resources at fas.hr@nyu.edu.
Guidelines:
These guidelines are intended to address the 2023-2024 academic year. Arts & Science reserves the right to amend these guidelines during the current or future academic years.
Current employees will be notified in writing regarding their hybrid/remote classification before September 1, 2022.
Employees whose positions are classified as Fully On-Site are expected to work on site 5 days per week throughout the academic year.
Employees whose positions are classified as Hybrid Eligible are expected to work on site 3-4 days per week the majority of the academic year.
All Arts & Science departments, units, and schools must also be staffed in person 5 days per week during normal business hours.
Supervisors may determine the appropriate hybrid work schedules for employees in their unit whose classification is deemed hybrid eligible, based on the operational needs of the department. Employees are no longer required to complete the Telecommuting Arrangement Request form.
Employees hired or newly transferred from another NYU unit as of September 1, 2022, may be eligible for hybrid/remote work after 3 full months of employment and must be in good standing.
All hybrid work arrangements must be based on the operational needs of the department, and whether or not an employee's job responsibilities can be effectively supervised and completed remotely. Hybrid work arrangements should not be based on any individual employee's personal circumstances (such as commuting time and/or method, child care or elder care needs, etc.). Any approved hybrid work arrangement may be rescinded or amended based on the needs of a department, unit or school.
Departments, units, or schools may also wish to explore the possibility of offering modified work schedules (i.e. flex time) where appropriate. Flexible schedules between the hours of 8am-6pm are acceptable. Proposed work schedules outside of 8am-6pm must be pre-approved by Arts & Science Human Resources.
Departments, units, or schools who wish to explore fully remote office operations for short periods of time during the academic year (i.e. J-Term, specific weeks during the summer months) must receive approval from Arts & Science Human Resources prior to implementing fully remote operations.
