Scholarship Opportunities

This scholarship supports full-time NYU undergraduate students pursuing a major in Hebrew and Judaic Studies

Amount: $3,000

Deadline: Extended to June 1, 2021

Eligibility: 

• Current HJS Major (students can declare the major and apply at the same time)

• Completed at least one Jewish Studies course toward major. 

• Minimum 3.0 GPA and in good academic standing

Application Requirements: 

• Letter of application (1 page maximum) stating the role of the Hebrew and Judaic Studies in your academic program.

• Letter of Recommendation from a professor in a Hebrew and Judaic Studies course. Letter should be submitted directly to gsas.hebrewjudaic@nyu.edu    

• Academic transcript

Students may receive the award in multiple years as long as they meet all eligibility requirements each year. 

Major Scholarship Application

This scholarship is a special award for outstanding HJS Majors with Honors 

Deadline: Extended to June 1, 2021

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility: 

• Current HJS Major who meets all the requirements for the Honors program 

• Completed at least one graduate level Jewish Studies course toward Honors major. 

Application: 

• Letter of application (1 page maximum) stating the role of the Hebrew and Judaic Studies Honors major in your academic program.

• Letter of Recommendation from a professor in a Hebrew and Judaic Studies course. Letter should be submitted directly to gsas.hebrewjudaic@nyu.edu    

• Academic transcript

Students may receive this award in addition to the HJS Major scholarship. Students may receive the award in multiple years as long as they meet all eligibility requirements each year.

Honors Scholarship Application

Undergraduate students are invited to submit their research papers written for a course in Hebrew and Judaic Studies. Papers are expected to have been written in conjunction with a Hebrew and Judaic Studies course taken in the 2020-21 academic year. 

Deadline: Extended to June 1, 2021

Amount: $500

Submission

• Paper should be no more than 15 pages double-spaced

• Title page should include: Name of student, email address, major, academic year, title of paper, course for which the paper was written

Essay Scholarship Application

Students with interest in Jewish history and culture, Israel, or the Middle East who are looking for ways to combine their interest with preparation for careers in high tech, the business world, or international affairs are invited to apply for NYU's Innovation Scholarship.

Eligibilty: To be eligible, applicants must have declared a major or minor in Hebrew and Judaic Studies at the time of the application. At Tel Aviv, they will be expected to take Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Israel - MGMT-UB 9087. Students may take an additional business course if desired along with courses in Hebrew and Judaic Studies. Students are highly encouraged to participate in an internship connected to Innovations in Israel which can be arranged by the Internship Coordinator at NYU Tel Aviv.

Amount: Program participants will receive a special scholarship of $5,000 toward their semester in Tel Aviv.  Students who complete a major in Hebrew and Judaic Studies will receive an additional $5,000 scholarship during their final semester at NYU.

The program allows students with an interest in archaeology and ancient studies to participate in one semester of study at NYU Tel Aviv concentrating on exploring the antiquities of the city of Caesarea Maritima in central Israel. This opportunity is available during the fall semester only.

Amount: Students will receive up to $10,000 to defray the costs associated with study away such as airfare, housing, and board.
