The Department of German at NYU and Deutsches Haus at NYU proudly celebrate the 10th anniversary of the DAAD Chair for Contemporary Poetics at NYU, generously funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), with a conversation between Marcel Beyer, currently DAAD Poetics Chair at NYU’s Department of German, and translator Katy Derbyshire.
NYU first welcomed Marcel Beyer as the inaugural DAAD Poetics Chair in Spring 2011, and we welcome him again now for his reprisal of the role in Fall 2021. On this celebratory literary evening, Marcel Beyer will give a reading from Putins Briefkasten (Putin’s Postbox), followed by a conversation with Katy Derbyshire, translator of Putins’s Postbox, a book on living in Eastern Germany and traveling around Central Europe after the Cold War, to be published in English by V&Q Books in 2022.
Welcoming remarks will be provided by Benedikt Brisch, Director DAAD North America and Director DWIH-German Center for Research and Innovation New York; and by Elisabeth Strowick, Chair of NYU’s Department of German.
