Seven NYU Arts & Science Alumni Appear on the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 List

Marcus R. Pyle

Alumni of the College Arts & Science, Liberal Studies and the Graduate School of Arts & Science have long been making a deep impact on our world. This month, Forbes recognized seven of these impact-makers by naming them to its prestigious 30 Under 30 List.

Several alumni on the list completed the two-year Liberal Studies program on their way to a degree from College of Arts & Science.

“Leveraging business smarts to save the world” earned Alexia Akbay LS/CAS ’17 a spot in the Social Impact category. Her company Symbrosia has developed a novel seaweed feed supplement that reduces livestock methane emissions by over 90%.

Jordan Anderson LS/GAL ’14 and Andrea Xu LS/CAS ’14 were both named in the Food & Drink category for “redefining the way we eat, drink and think about consumption.” Anderson is the cofounder and executive chef at Sami & Susu, an all-day Mediterranean restaurant in New York City with a menu inspired by family recipes. Xu is cofounder and CEO of Umamicart, an online Asian grocery store startup that aims to create a digital window for mom-and-pop, immigrant-led businesses.

In the Retail & Ecommerce category (“reinventing how we shop, on and offline”) Bianca Padilla LS/CAS ’15 was recognized for founding Carewell, a purveyor of crucial items for caregivers, including walkers, adult diapers, grab bars and more.

Mario Malave LS/CAS ’13 was named in the Social Media category as one of “the people, forces and companies shaping the creator economy.” Malave cofounded the Wagr app, which combines two popular pastimes for sports enthusiasts: gambling and smack-talking.

Appearing in the Manufacturing & Industry category for “creating the products, methods and materials of tomorrow” was William Binette CAS ’14. William cofounded Western Alliance, which trades in organic grains.

Graduate School of Arts & Science alumna Sahana Athreya ’18 was named to the Finance category for “influencing global money flows.” Athreya’s statistical and machine learning models have been crucial to a broad set of investment teams.

Congratulations to all!
