During the spring 2024 semester, a graduate student enrolled in the new Podcasting and Audio Reportage master’s concentration at the NYU Journalism Institute will have the opportunity to conduct and present original research as a Libsyn Fellow. Liberated Syndication Inc. (“Libsyn”), a leading podcasting platform, has provided funding for the Libsyn Fellowship.
The Libsyn Fellow will be chosen by a panel of NYU Arts & Science faculty, and the successful applicant’s podcasting-focused research topic will be developed with guidance from faculty. The research results will be presented publicly. The Libsyn Fellowship will also cover tuition expenses, fees and provide a stipend for the semester. Applications for the Libsyn Fellowship will be due November 1, 2023; complete details for applying will be announced by September 15.
Ellen Horne, Director of the Podcasting and Audio Reportage concentration, said: “The Libsyn Fellowship has the potential to impact the field broadly. It’s an exciting opportunity for our students and provides a wonderful complement to the mission of our program to develop market-ready leaders who will expand the creative frontiers of the medium. This Fellowship is only the start of a fruitful relationship with Libsyn, longtime leaders in the podcasting industry."
“The Libsyn Fellowship exemplifies our commitment to nurturing the growth of podcasting, supporting the visionary minds in podcast academia, and empowering the next generation of podcast creators,” said Andy Rogers, Senior Director of Partnerships at Libsyn.
NYU’s Journalism Institute offers the nation’s first graduate-level journalism program specializing in audio podcasting. The concentration will welcome its inaugural class in the fall of 2023. Students will work with a faculty of award-winning producers and well-known industry leaders, developing fluency with research, interviewing and reporting, writing, technical recording, digital editing and sound design. The practical concentration is open to students at every level of journalism and technical experience.
