
Richard Foley
Professor Emeritus of Philosophy
Richard Foley is former Ann and Joel Ehrenkranz Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science and Vice-Chancellor for Strategic Planning at New York University. Previously he was chair of the Department of Philosophy, Executive Dean of Arts and Science, and Dean of the Graduate School at Rutgers University, and prior to that, chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame.
Foley's primary reserch interest is epistemology. His latest book (draft) is Epistemology with a Broad and Long View. His previous books include: The Geography of Insight: The Sciences, The Humanities, How They Differ, Why They Matter (Oxford University Press, 2018); When Is True Belief Knowledge? (Princeton University Press, 2012); Intellectual Trust in Oneself and Others (Cambridge University Press, 2001); Working Without a Net (Oxford University Press, 1993); and The Theory of Epistemic Rationality (Harvard University Press, 1987).
