Rachel Boate is a doctoral candidate in art history at NYU's Institute of Fine Arts. Her research focuses on iterations of realism and the politics of visual form in interwar France, particularly during the years leading up to World War II. More specifically, her dissertation examines biomorphic abstract painting as a mode of social praxis under the French Popular Front. In the spring of 2015, Rachel will be a visiting CIRHUS fellow at the Institut d'Histoire moderne et contemporaine at the École normale supérieure in Paris.
