Pui Shan Fiona Hui was born and raised in Hong Kong. She earned her B.A. at Chinese University of Hong Kong, and her M.A. in Vocal Performance from Steinhardt School of Education at New York University.
She is currently a language educator at NYU and serves as a certified tester for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Her language testing skills are employed internationally by large corporations and governmental agencies seeking to examine and rate the Cantonese proficiency of their staff.
Ms. Hui’s specific interests in the field of language are: Cantonese heritage and non-heritage education, language testing/rating, curriculum development and performing arts.
Prior to joining NYU as full-time faculty, she was a performing artist in music theatre productions. She also served as a voice/diction coach, interpreter, voiceover talent and voiceover casting agent. Her skills have been retained for a number of artistic, legal and promotional efforts. These projects included work in the criminal justice system for the King’s County District Attorney and work in the arts for the Walt Disney Company.
