Dr. Chang is a practitioner and academic focusing on international and sub-national security (security sector reform, disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration, as well as the dynamics of civil wars), African governance, peace negotiations, conflict prevention, women's political participation, sexual and gender-based violence, and the management of armed conflicts by international organizations. Her regional expertise is in the sub-region of West Africa and she has conducted extensive field work in Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, The Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau. Dr. Chang has been a senior adviser to organizations and institutions on the development, design, and implementation of research projects. She has also led program and thematic evaluations including impact evaluations, quantitative household surveys, analysis of large-scale qualitative data, ethics protocols in field research, fact finding methods, and gender mainstreaming and analysis. She has worked with a number of different organizations including the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services, UN Department of Political Affairs, UN Development Programme, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, and the Harvard Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research.
