John Moran is a Clinical Professor in the Department of French Literature, Thought, and Culture, where he also serves as the Language Program Director. John teaches undergraduate courses in language, linguistics, literature, and history as well as a graduate pedagogy seminar for all new Graduate Student Adjuncts teaching in the department. John also served for fifteen months as the Director of NYU Paris.
John received his MS in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University and his Ph.D. in French and Linguistics at Tulane University, where he also taught language and linguistics courses and ran the language program as a Visiting Assistant Professor.
In addition to his work in the French Department at NYU, John has been very active in the Office of Residential Life and Housing Serviced, having served as the Faculty Affiliate for the l'Étage Français, a first-year Themed Exploration Community, for fourteen years and as a Faculty Fellow in Residence in a first-year residence hall for sixteen years.
John is currently the Chief Reader for the College Board's Advanced Placement French Language and Culture Exam, and he served as the Chair of the CLEP (College Level Examination Program) French Test Development Committee for six years.
