Research Interests

Angelika Winner’s research interests are situated at the intersection of food, health, and race. Her work is focused on issues of food justice and public health with an emphasis on racial justice. She is currently studying the foodways of women of color and their daily politics of resistance against racial inequities in the food environment of American cities. Angelika Winner’s research is community-based and involves working with grassroots organizations working on issues of racial justice and food equity.

Bio and Education

She is currently an adjunct lecturer at New York University and the City University of New York (CUNY). Angelika Winner earned her B.S. in Environmental Science as well as her M.S. in Hydrology at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg, Germany in 2009. She got a M.A. in Geography from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2014, where she is currently finishing her dissertation titled “Black Food Geographies and the Politics of Resistance”.  She has held several notable fellowships during her time at the Graduate Center and has presented her work at pedagogic as well as scientific conferences. Angelika Winner has co-authored a book chapter on the spatial analysis of urban health in Geospatial Technology for Human Well-Being and Health.
