Diamond Holloman is a Ph.D. candidate in UNC-CH's Environment, Ecology, and Energy program. She is investigating ways that communities of color in Lumberton, North Carolina, experience and recover from natural disaster.
Suzanne Pierre is the Environmental Scientist and Senior Environmental Educator at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. She is also a visiting scholar in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. She received a BA in Environmental Studies from New York University in 2013 and a Ph.D. in ecosystems ecology and biogeochemistry from Cornell University in 2018. She was a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley from 2018-2020. Sue's research focuses on the impacts of climatic change on the elemental relationships among plants, microbes, and the soils. She also explores and expresses herself through writing, where she critiques the past and present, and envisions a compassionate future at the intersection of Earth science, nature, freedom, and social justice. She is currently developing the Critical Ecology Lab, a non-profit academic and social justice environmental research group.
