As of July 7th, 2020:
In fall 2020, the Economics P.h.D program will offer a combination of blended, hybrid, and online courses. If our students can safely get to New York, we encourage them to do so as they will have the option to attend many of our courses in person. In addition, all courses will be accessible online so that those not in New York can attend virtually.
All of our first-year courses will be blended (see the attached spreadsheet for a list of first-year courses). A blended course is one where there are more students who want to attend in-person than seats available in the classroom due to social distancing regulations. In this case, we would have students rotate who attends in-person each day while the other students attend remotely. We currently estimate that between 2/3 and 3/4 of students in first-year courses will be able to attend in-person on any given day.
Many of our second- and third-year courses will be offered on a hybrid basis so students can choose between in-person and remote attendance. That being said, our classroom situation is TBD, and some of the larger advanced courses might have to be offered on a blended basis. Once we resolve our classroom situation, we will let you know which advanced courses are hybrid and which are blended (the spreadsheet will be updated as we progress).
Last but not least, all our seminars will be held virtually for Fall 2020.
