Conference Date: Friday, July 19, 2019
Location: NYU Kimmel Center for University Life, 9th Floor
All undergraduates and high school students who are affiliated with an NYU summer program, internship, workshop, or course are invited to participate in NYU’s 6th Annual Summer Student Research Conference (SSRC) on Friday, July 19, 2019. Applications will be accepted through Friday, July 5th at 5:00 pm. All student research conducted in connection with an NYU summer internship, workshop, program, course, or as an independent faculty‐supervised study over the summer is eligible for inclusion in the conference, but participation is limited, and applications will be accepted on a first-come basis. Any student actively being mentored by an NYU faculty member over the summer is invited to participate in this fun and supportive culminating experience.
At the conference, students will present their work from creative research projects, science experiments, lessons learned from volunteer and community projects, etc. Participants will receive feedback from scholars in the field as well as from their student peers and audience members. Students will either present or workshop their research in one of three ways:
Presentation Options
- Symposia Presentation: Students will create an oral presentation (including visual aids such as PowerPoint, Keynote, Prezi, etc.) to showcase their completed research and findings. Presentations must be given in language accessible to a non‐expert and delivered in the strict time frame of eight minutes or less. Students will then be provided with feedback from conference mentors and have an opportunity for brief Q&A from the audience.
- Poster Presentation: Students will create a poster that summarizes their completed research and findings. They will engage members of the community in discussion of their research findings at a reception at the end of the day. Poster backing is 36"H x 48"W. Please size your poster accordingly. Please note that due to size of the venue, presentation in the poster reception is limited, and applications will be accepted on a first-come basis.
- Research Workshop: Students whose research may not yet be complete will have the chance to pitch their in-progress ideas and hypotheses to mentors and peers. The goal of these workshops is to arm students with the skills and tools to take the next steps in advancing their research.
Research, projects, and volunteer experiences often arise as the result of collaborative efforts. Thus, we welcome students who wish to team up to share their work in the form of a joint presentation, with multiple presenters on a single presentation.
