Hello everybody! My name is Sophia and I’m the new Cultural Program Intern at Deutsches Haus at NYU. I was born and raised in Munich, Bavaria, a true “Münchener Kindl,” as we call it. I just completed my Bachelor’s Degree in North American Studies with a minor in French, Spanish, and English Literature at LMU Munich, where I’m going to start my Master’s program in the fall. My interest in this field of studies was sparked by travels to the U.S. as a teenager and by a study abroad year at Santa Barbara City College after high school. I have also worked as a student assistant at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society at LMU, an all English-speaking environment.
It’s a privilege for me to do an internship in the Cultural Program of Deutsches Haus at NYU, since a lot of my interests converge here. I’m especially fond of literature, art, theater, cinema, dance, and photography, and it will be exciting for me to experience these fields from an intercultural perspective. Being part of the team at Deutsches Haus, who made me feel so welcome since I first applied, is a great honor and joy. I’m really looking forward to everything that is in store for me these coming months!
