Hi! My name is Julia and I am the current intern of the Cultural Program at Deutsches Haus. I’m from the Saarland, one of Germany’s smallest (but also one of the most charming) federal states, close to the border of France and Luxemburg. I recently graduated with a M.A. in North American Literary and Cultural Studies from the University of the Saarland, in Saarbrücken, where I also did my undergraduate degree. Now, as a last stage before diving head first into work life, I have the pleasure of doing an internship at Deutsches Haus. The position appealed to me not only professionally, but also personally. I have spent many years of my childhood living in the U.S., simultaneously experiencing and living German and American cultures. Therefore, spending three months at Deutsches Haus and participating in mediating between different German-speaking cultures and New Yorkers, is a great privilege and joy.
Now, midway through the internship, I can already look back on numerous interesting events which have taken place here at Deutsches Haus and I look forward to many more to come, as well as continuing to explore New York City, which never runs out of places and things to discover.
