During my philosophy MA at Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis I have focused on the margins of academia. In my MA thesis I incorporated creative writing into my work to analyze the philosophical ramifications of a flight from Martinique to the moon, fueled by Aimé Césaire’s poetry. My aim was to reflect on how the emancipatory force of the arts can radically destabilize philosophical thought chained to colonial order. This exemplifies my desire to push philosophy beyond its boundaries, to make it grapple with objects outside of its discipline. In a similar vein, during my time in XE I will explore how to continue producing, listening to and enjoying classical music as a queer person, when it appears out of touch and symbolizes a patriarchal and racist order which fosters cultural imperialism. My project is to undo classical music’s hegemony by denaturalizing its canon, reproducing it in an irreverent way. I will focus on the performative aspect of classical music and the rhizomatic cultural circulations that make it up.
