This workshop is part of a three-part series, Applying for Doctoral Study: An XE Workshop Series in Fall 2020, designed to assist students contemplating doctoral study. The first workshop breaks down the application process, the second addresses what life is like as a current PhD student, and the third helps students craft their application materials.
All workshops will be run by Lori Cole, Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Director of XE, and held virtually with links sent to participants who RSVP to email@example.com.
Statement of Purpose Writing Workshop
The Statement of Purpose (SOP) is one of the most important parts of your PhD application, but one of the hardest to write. In this workshop we will discuss:
· How to structure the SOP around a clear, compelling research project.
· How to demonstrate knowledge of a specific field of inquiry.
· How to draw a reader in and generate a narrative based on your past academic and professional experiences.
· How to craft your SOP for a certain discipline or school.
Students participating in this workshop will be asked to bring a draft of their SOP to share with students and faculty.
