Organizational structure
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator for the Department of Psychology is an elected member of our tenured faculty, who oversees the commitments stated above, who serves as an ombudsperson for the members of the Psychology community, to whom instances of intolerance, otherizing, and discrimination can be confidentially reported, and who coordinates with faculty, administrators, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The DEI Coordinator is currently Prof. Emily Balcetis, emilybalcetis@nyu.edu.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Steering Committee (to be established in Fall 2021) will be a standing committee that will work with the DEI Coordinator to achieve the Department’s DEI goals, and to monitor and assess past DEI initiatives. Committee members will be elected to two year terms by their respective constituencies. The Department will seek an equal number of faculty, postdocs, and doctoral students from the C&P and Social programs. It is expected that the DEI Committee will meet 3-4 times per semester.
PhD students self-organize a Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee (DISC), which generates programming and content to support the student body, and liaises with the Coordinator.
