Ph.D. Program
The Ph.D. program is aimed at enabling a student to prepare for and carry out research in physics. Entering students who qualify for admission to the Ph.D. program are offered a five-year departmental financial aid package with a commitment of at least 2 semesters of part-time teaching duties. Support is contingent upon adequate progress being made towards fulfillment of the degree requirements. Students who need more than 5 years to complete their degree requirement can apply for research assistantships and a limited number of fellowships without teaching duties.

Finding Housing
The university is willing to co-sign a lease for you. In addition, once you get an e-mail account, you will have access to a housing website that will enable you to find a room, should you not want to rent your own place in the beginning
Core Courses
There is a set of five required core courses that must be passed with a grade of B or better during the student's first year. Entering students should be aware of Preliminary Examinations given just before classes start in the Fall, covering the core-course material. Passing one these exams with a grade of B or better indicates that the student has satisfied the relevant core-course requirement and need not enroll in that course. The requirement may also be satisfied, without enrolling in the course, by achieving a average grade of B or better based on the midterm and final examinations of the course.
