"Do Credences Represent Guesses?"

Abstract:

What are credences? Where do the numbers come from? Some have argued that they are brute and primitive; others, that they represent our dispositions to bet, or that they represent our comparative confidence judgments. I will explore a new answer to this question: credences represent our dispositions to guess. I will argue that we can think of credences this way, and then consider: should we?
