Workshop Series: Public Humanities in Digital Domains

This two-part workshop will help you identify the digital skills you want to support your Public Humanities work. The workshop will help you consider your online presence and choose strategies for engaging with audiences and communities relevant to your work.

Part 1: People and Publics Online

This workshop will introduce how humanities scholars present themselves and their work online and where along the way the public gets involved. We will examine how academic platforms, social media, and personal websites can build your public humanities profile. Building on this, we will help participants set up manageable steps for getting started and moving forward. Then, by identifying the larger ecosystem of audiences and user communities, we will then examine strategies for meeting and engaging your constituents where they are.

Part 2: Connecting to Communities with Digital Scholarship

This workshop will help you navigate the means of connecting your communities to and through your scholarship. Presenting tools to manage resources and data, we will show you some of the services available at the library to help you connect your scholarship to a wider public.

Description: Please join us November 21st for “Beyond These Walls: Academic Experiences with Public Engagement,” a conversation with Urayoán Noel and Nikhil Singh, two professors at NYU with extensive public humanities experience. Urayoán Noel is a poet, critic, and translator whose work has been exhibited in the Museum of the City of New York (among others). Nikhil Singh is the founding director of the NYU Prison education project. Urayoán Noel and Nikhil Singh will be speaking with us about their experiences with public engagement, and answering your questions about connecting academic and community work.
