My primary research focuses on Roman archaeology in the Eastern Mediterranean and Roman social history. I am passionate about making museums and ancient history accessible to all, an interest I previously cultivated at the Getty Villa and my local history museum.

I am a doctoral student focusing on Postcolonial and Global South Studies with a special interest in how culture and history complicate processes of subject formation, individuation, and identification. My investment in the public humanities is informed by my work on Bollywood cinema, surveillance culture, and visual media. I consider the ways in which modes of seeing and being seen bear upon the stability of racial, sexual, linguistic and other forms of identity. I hope to extend my thinking on spectatorship by engaging with institutions and artefacts of public memorialisation and forgetting--museums, art galleries, architecture, and expected or mandated gestures of respect/remembrance.

History
I am a first- year PhD student in the Department of History, specializing in the History of Science and Technology and Transregional History. My PhD Project focuses on energy, geoscientific and climate research, and the production of trans-imperial scientific knowledge within the context of Western Eurasian Empires, as well as their successor states from the late 19th century onwards. As part of my project, I have been reflecting on the connected and multifaceted histories of expert knowledge and tacit knowledge in the field of climate science. I believe that the Public Humanities Initiative offers a unique opportunity for me to engage with practical challenges and develop new methodologies while contemplating enigmatic concepts and values.

My research interests focus on the history of nomadism and nomadic tribes in the early modern Middle East. Contextualizing and historicizing different modes of life people had in history and today, like nomadism and tribalism, help to understand different tracks of the human past better. Engagement of this kind of inquiry with the public would allow us to contribute to the formation of more sophisticated and unbiased knowledge about people.
Comparative Literature
I am an incoming PhD student in the Comparative Literature department with a background in Slavic Studies and the Environmental Humanities. By researching how cultures conceptualize the climate crisis in contemporary literature I hope to better understand how the wider public relates to our dystopian present and how storytelling can offer a path towards growing communities and social movements.

My research interests focus on the relationship between the mind and the body in contemporary literature, and how this is impacted by global trends. My study is comparative and emphasizes the importance of seeing literature as part of the dynamic, ever-changing world.
History
I am a first-year PhD student specializing in Afro-diasporic revolutionary intellectual histories in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Latin America and the Caribbean, with a focus on Central America between 1780 and 1820. I am interested in the revolutionary semiotics and political thought of Black revolutionaries who conspired to turn the world upside down, studied through visual analysis of symbols produced in written, material, and oral knowledge that defy archival categorization. I seek to bring peripheral geographic regions such as Central America into the spatial and intellectual realm of the Age of Revolutions and the Caribbean.

I am a PhD student interested in the cross section between the Hebrew Bible and Near Eastern Archaeology. I seek to address how biblical interpretation impacts excavations, communities, and heritage surrounding archaeological sites associated with biblical place names. With my interest in the Public humanities I wish to gain the skills necessary for my work to benefit not just scholarship but also modern day communities and heritage work.

Specializing in Afro-Asian studies, I delve into neglected topics like grassroots literary activism, community archives, and the Cold War's impact on interracial alliances. I aim to uncover hidden solidarity in diverse communities like Chinatown and Harlem and transform these narratives into public resources like themed exhibitions, talks, and learning materials. My mission is to bridge the academia-community divide and reshape how we engage with literature and history by spotlighting the often-ignored stories of our shared past.

My primary research interests focus on the interstices of trauma studies, postcolonial studies, and Caribbean literature. I aim to explore how the traumatic implications of the Black Caribbean are remedied in the literary form. As a Haitian-American, I am passionate about centering Haiti and its legacy in the nexus of my research. Therefore, I plan to contribute to the culture and scholarship of Haiti and other areas of the Black Caribbean with the intention of prioritizing a community centered approach to these conversations that is accessible beyond The Academy."

My doctoral study engages a long tradition of intellectual work emerging from slippages between publics and institutions: feminist and critical theory, poetics, pre-modern Christianity and medieval mysticism. I aim to contribute to these imbricated critical and creative imaginaries, as collectively envisioned across space and time.

As a native Puerto Rican I grew up in an island colony stifled by austerity. Organizations that brought the Humanities to the public were almost non-existent and mostly owned by private entities. A lack of museums, archives and libraries makes the population not have access to their own history and this is what drives me. I am interested in Western and Caribbean colonial and post-colonial history in order to make sense of the shared contemporary insular experiences.

My research focuses on Holocaust Theology and the rise of Religious Zionism after the Shoah. I am passionate about the importance of Holocaust education and the need for greater engagement between the academic study of antisemitism and public understanding of the long history of persecution.

I focus on socio-economic histories and the history of science/technology in the 20th century. I seek to be part of the process to spark new conversations and public interest in scholarly expertise, with an eye to making even far-removed topics relevant and exciting in the public domain.

I am interested in how concepts like race, indigeneity, and gender, and structures like settler colonialism, circulate across the Pacific. I received my BA and MA from the Women and Gender Studies Institute at the University of Toronto. Prior to pursuing a PhD, I worked as a research coordinator for Refugee States, a community-led project that creates refugee counter-archives, and as a research assistant at the Civic Laboratory for Environmental Action Research.
Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures
My current research lands at the intersection of theories of violence and gender theory, and their relationship to biopolitics, memory and trauma studies. I am interested in a decolonial and comparative approach that examines contemporary Latin American works that illustrate genealogies of patriarchal violence in Mexico and Colombia. In my studies, I attempt to connect the perpetuation of feminicidio, and the systematic extermination of marginalized bodies in Latin America with bioresistance and collective memory today.

I am a first-year Ph.D. student focused on the synergy between literature and political behavior. Specifically, I am curious about depictions of voting and the ballot in twentieth-century written and visual culture. As I excavate the literary antecedents to the Voting Rights Act and the reemergence of these narratives in twenty-first-century political rhetoric, I want to consider the ways a holistic, humanistic approach can help explain and resolve the most entrenched political phenomena.

Philosophy
My research interests lie in Ancient Greek and contemporary ethics and moral psychology, as well as social and political philosophy, especially feminist thought. My enthusiasm for the public humanities stems from my belief in the importance of engaging diverse publics in philosophical thought and discussion; this, I think, is key to producing more reflective cultures and a more inclusive and just social world.

I am broadly interested in cultural and media studies in East Asian and global contexts, with a focus on cultural productions in and cultural memories of China from the mid to late twentieth century. How public institutions and forces shape collective memories, especially the ephemeral and sensory ones, forms a critical part of my research. Through the Public Humanities Initiative, I hope to explore and engage in more ways for individuals to participate in reclaiming and reconstructing their histories and memories.

I am a first year doctoral student and writer of cultural criticism, nonfiction and poetry. My interdisciplinary research traverses Black Feminist Thought, 19th/20th cen. Black media and culture, rhetoric, affect and capitalism, which all unify within my Master's research on Black women's media and color theory. I'm interested in the public humanities as a modality and tool to combat Black erasure in a society that continues to enfranchise gentrification, the sanitization of history and precarity for Black and marginalized people.
Comparative Literature
My research focuses on comparative modernities and the intersection of literary and political thought, with a particular focus on transnational intellectual contacts in and around modern China and the Sinophone world. My interest in the public humanities is informed by a background in human rights activism and freelance writing, and I hope to continue to work on public-facing criticism that engages with contemporary politics.
