Housed in the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis (SCA), the Latinx Studies Program engages interdisciplinary research on Latino/a/x history, culture, and politics in the U.S. and transnationally. The program focuses on dynamics of race, class, nationality, generation, language, gender, and sexuality among different Latinx subgroups. It also focuses on comparative inter- and intra-ethnic dynamics and transnational circuits and processes. Its location in New York City makes possible a program built around synergy among the arts, social sciences, and humanities. It offers students training in both field-based and archival research, including opportunities abroad. Students benefit from existing resources in Spanish and Portuguese for language study, and from courses in related units in Latin American studies, African American Studies, Gender and Sexuality and more.
